Pastor's Corner

Dear Members and Friends of Faith Immanuel Presbyterian Church:

By now, I hope you’ve learned that I am joining you in October. I met many of you at the outdoor worship service and picnic, and I look forward to getting to know all of you soon. In the meantime, please accept the following brief introduction in anticipation of our journey together in Christ. (I understand the newsletter also includes a newsy story about me with details of my position with FIPC.)
In our baptisms, we are claimed by God and appointed for ministry. Each of us has work to do to serve
God and love our neighbors. I experienced God’s call to the particular ministry of Word and Sacrament
after college; I took time to explore other options to be sure I wasn’t imagining things. I attended
McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago and took an internship in Nebraska to find out what
ministers actually do during the day. There I fell in love with the stunning Nebraska sunsets.

After seminary, I served churches in upstate New York, Ohio, Nebraska and Pennsylvania. I also worked in campus ministry while living in Ohio, teaching courses at Central Ohio Technical College. I spent seven years of my childhood in Sweden when my father’s company transferred him there; we left the U.S.A. as a family of four, returned as a family of seven. We moved several times after our return, and I learned to adapt to new communities, and to enjoy the good I found in each one.

I believe the Spirit is calling me to Faith Immanuel Presbyterian Church because so many wonderful
people have worked hard to make this possible. What I like about FIPC is the commitment to helping the community, the willingness to work together so this blended community can function well, the passion for worship, and the beautiful sanctuary inspires me. I trust that the God who brought us together, weaving together all our stories to get us to this point, will continue to guide us onward.
