Happy Easter!

Did you know that Easter is a SEASON and not just a day?  That’s right – the season of Easter on the church calendar this year runs through May 12, the Sunday before Pentecost, which we will celebrate on May 19.

On Easter itself, we travel with the women and the disciples to discover that the tomb is empty.  In Luke’s account, an angel tells a group of confused women disciples, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?  He is not here but has risen.  Remember how he told you . . . [that he would rise again on the third day].” (Luke 24: 5-7)

On Easter, we joyfully proclaim, “Christ is risen!  He is risen indeed!”  But what do we do with that knowledge?  How does it affect our day-to-day lives after the music fades and the lilies wilt?  During the period between Easter and Pentecost we celebrate the new life in Christ, and contemplate exactly what it means to be "alive with Christ."  We rejoice in the assurance that this new life is ours now and always.

What does it mean to live as “Easter people,” or “people of the resurrection,” as this is sometimes called?  In the Sundays following Easter we will explore this question.  Here are some examples as we begin the season:

          “Living as Resurrection People”

April 7, Second Sunday of Easter – Claiming God’s Grace

April 14, Third Sunday of Easter – Embracing Joy

April 21, Fourth Sunday of Easter – Following the Shepherd

As we look forward to Easter and Spring and new beginnings, may we continue the celebration beyond the day and find joy in the risen Christ’s presence among us!

Blessings,
